ABOUT Lars Karlsson
Lars Karlsson, Global Head of Trade and Customs Consulting at A.P. Møller-Maersk, is widely acknowledged as one of the most well-known and experienced customs leaders in the world, with an extensive background of over 30 years in customs, borders and international trade policy.

Before joining Maersk, Mr Karlsson served for ten years as Managing Director and co-owner of KGH Customs Services, a pan-European expert company in the area of Customs, borders and trade policy.

He is a former Director of the World Customs Organization (WCO), an international institution with 195 members countries representing 99% of world trade. The WCO is the standard-setting organization for customs and borders. Mr Karlsson served at the top of the WCO for six years, and is also a former Director General and Deputy Director General of Swedish Customs, having served in the Swedish government for 28 years.

Mr Karlsson acts as a senior advisor to governments, international institutions and multinational companies worldwide, and has also acted as independent senior advisor to both the European Union and United Kingdom on Brexit. He leads and sits on the board of several international think-tanks and research networks on customs, borders and trade.

He is a Doctor of Education (honoris causa), and holds a Masters in International Customs Law and Administration (University of Canberra) as well as academic degrees from several universities in various countries. He received his leadership and management education from IMD International Institute for Management Development (Switzerland), Cranfield School of Management (the UK), and the University of Uppsala (Sweden).

Mr Karlsson is an acknowledged speaker, the author of several books, and has written articles for various academic journals. He has visited 173 countries and has worked in more than 130 of them in all regions of the world.
