The existence of reliable addresses is essential for the postal sector, especially when processing mail for home delivery. There is a need to develop UPU member countries’ capabilities in terms of the effective use of postal address data so that they can respond to cross-border e-commerce growth and make use of new geolocation technologies that enable digital addressing.
The UPU’s addressing capacity-building activities aim to assist countries in designing and implementing national addressing and postcode projects that integrate the most advance technologies, to assist in postal decision-making processes and improve the quality of postal operations.
The entities targeted by these addressing capacity-building activities include UPU member countries that wish to develop addressing projects or integrate GIS into their current addressing solutions, but have only limited expertise and resources. The capacity-building activities also include principles and recommendations on the use of off-the-shelf grid-based code solutions for postal deliveries.
Member countries interested in seeking assistance or sharing their experiences with addressing or postcode projects are invited to contact us at addressingtheworld(at)upu.int.
