The Pan-African Postal Union (PAPU) and the Consultative Committee (CC) secretariat have held a joint meeting (via remote means) on the postal prosperity zone (PPZ) initiative on 31 January 2024.
The Pan-African Postal Union (PAPU) and the Consultative Committee (CC) secretariat have held a joint meeting (via remote means) on the postal prosperity zone (PPZ) initiative, with the aim of explaining the initiative to the restricted union’s members. The CC Chair, Mr Walter Trezek, and the CC Secretary, Mr Alexander Thern-Svanberg, provided detailed information on the concept, including the upcoming introduction of Platinum CC membership (and the related Postal Technology Centre certification). Several member countries were represented, with a total of 118 participants from designated operators, regulators and ministries in charge of Posts. A number of participants, including Senegal, shared their enthusiasm for the PPZ initiative, expressing their trust in and support for the PPZ hub approach and the ongoing PPZ pilot project, currently spearheaded by Poste Maroc. They also welcomed the new Platinum CC membership category, whereby Platinum CC members certified by the Postal Technology Centre will have the exclusive opportunity to connect to the UPU network (POST*Net). This will bring new commercial volumes into the UPU global postal network in the Africa region, in line with the S26 standard (rather than S10).
