The Deputy Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Pascal Clivaz today met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Post, Information Technology & Communication of Algeria, Fouad Belkassam, and Director General and President of the Algerian Post Administration Council, Abdelkarim Dahmani.
Welcoming the delegation and accompanied by Research and Strategy Programme Manager Mr. Fernão De Borba, who presented an overview of the UPU’s Integrated Index for Postal Development (known as 2IPD), Mr. Clivaz highlighted the meeting’s importance. He said the meeting offered the opportunity to exchange experiences and deliver best practices for improving Algeria’s postal sector.
He outlined various opportunities for cooperation, as well as potential areas of joint partnerships and exchanges in expertise. He expressed confidence that Algeria Post could play a key role in facilitating the delivery of mail both to and from Algeria.
In his presentation, Mr. Dahmani, presented an overview of Algeria Post’s capabilities and operations; including, mail operations and products and services. He also highlighted achievements and key projects.
Mr. Belkassam emphasized the close cooperation with UPU and stressed how this relationship was enhancing Algeria’s readiness to fully meet the needs of the e-commerce market, and the free movement of international postal services based on efficiency and quality designed to guarantee customer satisfaction.
He expressed the hope that the visit would provide a welcome opportunity to become better acquainted with UPU’s services.
At the end of the visit, the delegation thanked UPU for supporting Algeria Post in its efforts to implement its modernization strategy.
Algeria joined the Universal Postal Union on 1 October 1907 and was elected to the UPU Council of Administration in 2017 during the Istanbul Congress.
