The UPU Director General Bishar A. Hussein and Deputy Director General Pascal Clivaz have officially received their letters of reappointment for a second term.
The recent presentation ceremony in Berne, Switzerland was presided over by the Council of Administration’s (CA) chair.
Hussein and Clivaz were re-elected by acclamation during the 26th Universal Postal Congress in Istanbul, Turkey in October.
“I pledge... to implement all the Istanbul Congress decisions, resolutions and recommendations, develop a post-Istanbul World Postal Strategy and work towards the achievement of financial sustainability for the Union,” said Hussein, speaking immediately following his re-election.
For his part, Clivaz added: “It is time to look to the future, to ensure continuity and focus our attention on the necessary adjustments… and I will anchor my mandate as Deputy Director General on these cardinal points: an ambitious, dynamic, reliable and totally renewed UPU in 2020.”
“It will be a pleasure to have the experience to work with Mr. Hussein and Mr. Clivaz for the next four years. They will have my close cooperation to overcome the issues to be dealt with during the next work cycle,” said Kenan Bozgeyik, who represents Turkey as CA Chair.
Hussein, from Kenya, and Clivaz, from Switzerland, were first elected during the 2012 Universal Postal Congress in Doha, Qatar. Their new mandate will see them continue to lead the UPU until 2020.
