Egypt: postal services resume

Postal services in Egypt are back to normal after having experienced disruptions due to the turmoil affecting the country.

The Egyptian Post informed the UPU’s International Bureau this week that postal services are up and running again after experiencing difficulties earlier this month while public demonstrations shook the country.

The Egyptian Post employs some 49,000 staff, making it the largest postal employer in the Arab world, and manages more than 4,500 post offices.

The UPU's regional project coordinator in Cairo, who was evacuated along with other United Nations staff because of security concerns, has returned to the Egyptian capital to resume his duties.

Some 600 UN staff were sent to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus at the height of the turmoil.
