UPU supports initiatives to boost recovery

The UPU fully supports a range of initiatives designed to boost economic recovery unveiled by the chief executives of the United Nations system when they met in Paris in early April.

Director General Edouard Dayan joined the heads of 28 UN bodies, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, to discuss the economic crisis, on the heels of the UPU's own debate on the crisis's impact on the postal sector, held at its headquarters on April 2.

Some of the initiatives discussed in Paris included food security and additional financing for the world's most vulnerable people. The UPU particularly supports the strengthening of Aid for Trade initiatives, the Green Economy Initiative, the Global Jobs Pact, designed to boost employment and promote decent work for all, and the development of technological infrastructure to promote and improve access to innovation.
