Your partners’ data
The UPU’s common language

The UPU EDI Engine supports data exchange between postal operators and their wider postal sector player (WPSP) partners. Through its application programming interfaces (APIs), it converts the information supplied by these partners into electronic data interchange (EDI) messages compliant with the supported UPU standards for transmission via POST*Net, the UPU network.

An entry point to the UPU network for your partners

The UPU EDI Engine enables postal operators’ WPSP partners to connect their systems to data exchanges on the UPU network.

For postal operators, the tool facilitates exchanges with partners that use their own IT systems. Information supplied by these partners is converted into standardized messages for use by the relevant stakeholders’ systems.

From operational data to EDI messages through APIs

An API is an interface that allows IT systems to exchange data. WPSP partners use these interfaces to send their operational information to the UPU EDI Engine.

The engine translates this information into EDI messages, i.e. electronic messages structured according to UPU standards. The partner supplies the required data, and the UPU EDI Engine formats it into the supported message types.

  1. Send the data

The partner’s system sends its operational information through an API.

  2. Create standardized messages

The UPU EDI Engine uses the available data to generate the corresponding EDI messages.

  3. Distribute the information

Messages are transmitted via POST*Net to the relevant stakeholders for use in their systems.

Processing depends on the information supplied and the message types supported.

A backbone for data exchange across the postal supply chain

Parcels ready for transfer in a logistics centre, where sorting and transport operations meet.

In a supply chain involving an increasing number of participants, the UPU EDI Engine provides a backbone for distributing data to different stakeholders.

Depending on the information received and the message types supported, the engine can create and transmit EDI messages used in other systems.

This facilitates the flow of information between WPSP partners, postal operators and other relevant stakeholders on the basis of common standards.

Future developments
This information flow function is intended to support future evolutions of the UPU’s delivered duty paid (DDP) solution.

Help your WPSP partners to get started

Would you like to facilitate data exchange with your WPSP partners?

Invite your WPSP partners to complete the contact form below to discuss an UPU EDI Engine integration project.

They can outline the operational data available and the exchanges that they want to establish through APIs. This information will serve to assess their needs and identify the next steps.

  • Operational data available
  • Exchanges to be established
